We feel you, we see you and from the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU!
From the fullness of our hearts, we wanted to express our gratitude to all the participants, volunteers, panelists, contributors, sponsors, partners, and space-holders for showing up bravely, joining us through the Zoom windows, smiling, sharing, listening, and opening yourself to this space of co-creation.
We hope the insights and connections you made will serve as nutrients, nurturing the soil of your life and work as you carry them back to your world to see what grows.
This conference has been a beautiful glimpse into the simplicity and wonder of learning alongside the Earth, revealing countless possibilities.
With gratitude and plenty of invitations to continue stepping into this flow of abundance together,
– the REC team
During the Re-imagining Education Conference (REC) 4.0 (October 24 – 27, 2024)
we explored together notion of nature as a teacher to remind us of our territories, our roots, our nutrients, our cultures, our communities, and our history.
We immersed ourselves into the wisdom and knowledge of the ecosystems below the surface – the fungi realm, deep roots, clews of earthworms, natural aquifers etc. – as our metaphor for learning. We are invited to continue to explore how mycelial threads are being connected and sprouts are rising from this connection all over the world.
Since 2021, REC has brought together
The Re-imagining Education Conference (REC) is an annual 4-day long intensive online gathering, convening people across geographies, knowledge systems and experiences. REC is organized within and throughout the large web of the Ecoversities Alliance, a coalition of educators, of learners, practitioners ,communities, weavers, and dreamers from a plurality of worldviews, backgrounds, and experiences.
Through the conference, our hope is to make space for questions to surface and relations to emerge and strengthen.
How can we cooperate autonomously to re-imagine education?
How can we listen to our territories to inform our actions, decisions, and lives?
How can we invite the wisdom of the underground ecosystems to surface in our education practices?
How can we nurture our soils to regenerate all the damage that the education system has brought to our minds, bodies, and spirits?
“Evolution is not the survival of the fittest, it is the extension of the generosity of surplus to other members in the ecological community to build biodiversity. So it’s not the individual that survives, it’s the community that cooperates that survives.”
– Paul Stamets
Abundance
The conference is held in the spirit of abundance and a desire to create gift culture. All contributions, monetary or otherwise, are appreciated and no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Learn more about gift culture.
Action
As we question, research, and nourish our imaginations, we also continue to take action, walk, weave, play, experiment and co-create, becoming what we dream of being.
Playfulness
We invite your whole self to participate. We’ll have sessions and games throughout the day that focus on movement, art, and somatic practices, without excluding feelings and emotions and inviting all our senses in.
Plurality
Learning is enhanced when we are together among different worldviews, generations, territories, and languages. We can broaden our own ways of knowing by witnessing what is reflected back to us in mirrors we’ve never looked in. We learn with, within, and beyond differences.
Relationality
We hold intentional relationships with what is around us, and what is emerging; we invite openness to the ideas, actions and connections that will unfold organically during this unique gathering of hearts, souls and minds oriented to a common horizon.
This fanzine is built with the collective gardening and the harvest of the last 3 years from attendees, speakers, volunteers, panelists, and organizers.
We had in mind that the conference has inspired people to share poetry, drawings, notes, ideas, inspiring and profound phrases, songs; we found so
much beauty that we wanted to take the time to create this fanzine by hand. We made it in this format because it gives us the freedom to link different forms of expression.
There are many things; we couldn’t include everything. We apologize in advance if we did not include you in this compilation.
The REC conference is offered in the spirit of the gift, we believe in generosity, love and kindness and we are open to receiving gifts in return.
If you or your organization would like to be a partner with us, please get in touch!

Mycelial Roots
Local Futures is a pioneer of the worldwide localization movement. Our focus is on ‘going local’ as a key strategy for restoring ecological, social and spiritual wellbeing. Our films, books, podcast, blog, toolkits, webinars, and conferences are helping to build an international movement for systemic change.
We seek to facilitate growth and positive change on three simultaneous and deeply interconnected levels: the internal, the interpersonal, and the systemic. We ignite the power of self-awareness and of beloved community, recognizing how inner work and relational shifts can lead to healing and liberation. We nurture vision and collaboration to co-create possibilities for our lives, our families, our work and our communities
The Earthrise Collective is a space for innovative, creative thinkers, activists, artists, healers, wisdom-holders, and visionaries to create new systems and ways of working, and to build new paradigms for the future. Our work is grounded in the Akan Twi and Fante Peoples’ idea of Sankofa: we draw from the wisdom of our ancestors as we chart our journey towards this future. Our activism embraces prayer and ritual, and holds all of life sacred.
We are a constellation of humans and nonhumans working together trans-locally to curate projects, rituals, conversations and events that nurture senses of the otherwise via practices that trouble the traditional boundaries of agency and possibility.
CLOWN SPIRIT VILLAGE is a community of people doing extraordinary things in their lives, and they're doing it through the power of clown.
The Post Growth Institute (PGI) is an international organization accelerating the world’s shift to a society that thrives within ecological limits. PGI brings creativity and clarity to complex economic challenges. While we articulate the causes of the harsh realities that underlie our current global predicament, we also outline specific steps toward a thriving, alternative future focused on better, not bigger.
