How can we reimagine education with the cycles of change?
For five years, the Re-imagining Education Conference has gathered to ask a fundamental question:
Why reimagine education?
Because how we learn changes how we live. REC is a space where reimagining is understood as a living cycle — rich with ups and downs, twists and turns, and journeys inward and outward.
In our early years, we began unraveling systems that no longer serve us. We discovered strength in plurality, grounded learning in the wisdom of our territories, and embraced embodiment and playfulness, inviting our whole selves into learning.
REC 5.0: Cycles of Change
As we host our 5th online conference, REC becomes an emergent research experiment and a living laboratory for critical pedagogy. This year, we learn from the changing cycles of our collective work and from the wisdom of the Earth and its elements.

A Journey So Far
In our early years, we began unraveling systems that no longer serve us. We discovered strength in plurality, grounded learning in the wisdom of our territories, and embraced embodiment and playfulness, inviting our whole selves into learning.
REC 5.0: Cycles of Change
As we host our 5th online conference, REC becomes an emergent research experiment and a living laboratory for critical pedagogy. This year, we learn from the changing cycles of our collective work and from the wisdom of the Earth and its elements.
Just as water moves through its cycles — from glaciers to rivers to underground streams — we reflect on how learning flows, connects, and transforms. The river is not just the river; it is also the mountain.
Who is this for?
We invite you to bring your whole self, your questions, joys, griefs, and wisdom.
This gathering welcomes pedagogues, visionaries, pleasure activists, academics, grandmothers, researchers, and tricksters. Everyone re-imagining education within and beyond academia.
A Shared Horizon
This conference serves as a transdisciplinary bridge to honor what we have created together over the past five years.
May our conversations and shared moments become fertile ground for new life, new ideas, and new movements to flourish.
Through the conference, our hope is to make space for questions. Here are some that we bring:
How can education learn from natural cycles of change; especially from water,
to transform how we live and learn?
What is changing now in our education systems, and how can we
embrace and shape that change together?
How can we move beyond the “school-factory” model and
regenerate learning for life, not for the economy?

Abundance
The conference is held in the spirit of abundance and a desire to create gift culture. All contributions, monetary or otherwise, are appreciated and no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Learn more about gift culture.
Action
As we question, research, and nourish our imaginations, we also continue to take action, walk, weave, play, experiment and co-create, becoming what we dream of being.
Playfulness
We invite your whole self to participate. We’ll have sessions and games throughout the day that focus on movement, art, and somatic practices, without excluding feelings and emotions and inviting all our senses in.
Plurality
Learning is enhanced when we are together among different worldviews, generations, territories, and languages. We can broaden our own ways of knowing by witnessing what is reflected back to us in mirrors we’ve never looked in. We learn with, within, and beyond differences.
Relationality
We hold intentional relationships with what is around us, and what is emerging; we invite openness to the ideas, actions and connections that will unfold organically during this unique gathering of hearts, souls and minds oriented to a common horizon.
